Winner of the Costa Book of the Year 2015, The Lie Tree is a dark and powerful novel from universally acclaimed author, Frances Hardinge.
It was not enough. All knowledge- any knowledge – called to Faith, and there was a delicious, poisonous pleasure in stealing it unseen.
Faith has a thirst for science and secrets that the rigid confines of her class cannot suppress. And so it is that she discovers her disgraced father’s journals, filled with the scribbled notes and theories of a man driven close to madness. Tales of a strange tree which, when told a lie, will uncover a truth: the greater the lie, the greater the truth revealed to the liar. Faith’s search for the tree leads her into great danger – for where lies seduce, truths shatter . . .
Sorry this is not a long review..
As Much as I wanted to really enjoy this book it was so difficult to get in to. Maybe it was my state of mind at the time but I just couldn’t finish it. I found it very wordy and i couldn’t connect with it. This is no reflection on Frances as a writer as I think she is a great writer. It may have been because I felt as though I had to rush the book because of my own work load and this isn’t really a book that you can read quickly. it requires your full attention
The story line itself is very interesting and Faith as a character is somebody who I could relate to, she is very inquisitive and the relationship between her and her mother is very interesting.
At the moment I would have to give this a a 2 out of 5 . Simply because I was unable to finish it but I will be coming back to the book at a later date to try read this again.
