So the other day I was scrolling through Netflix and I couldn’t find anything that I felt like watching. I wasn’t in the mood to watch horror or thrillers and I have seen most of the Rom Coms haha! (seriously). I had heard about Big Here 6 but never really got around to watching it. I am so glad I decided to watch it.
The film is centered around Hiro Hamada(Ryan Potter), a young robotics genius who graduated high school at 14 and now engages in illegal robot wars. His brother Tadashi (Daniel Henney) helps him out of a sticky situation at the beginning of the movie and attempts to guide him in a better direction. Tadashi and Hiro live with their Aunt Cass (Maya Rudolph) above her Cafe in the fictional City of San Fransokyo.
Tadashi takes Hiro to the University that he attends in an attempts to get Hiro to use his genius for good rather than illegal robot wars that have recently got him in to trouble with the law. Hiro initially makes fun of his older brother, saying he wastes his time working in a Nerd lab but once he meets Tadashi’s friends Wasabi(Damon Wayans. Jr), Gogo (Jamie Chung), Honey Lemon(Génesis Rodríguez) and Fred (T.J.Miller)and he sees what Tadashi and the other students at the school have created he decides that that is where he wants to be. Tadashi shows Hiro Baymax(Scott Adsit), an inflatable Healthcare robot that he has created to help people. Baymax is activated when he hears the word “ouch” and scans a persons body in order to determine how to help them. Hiro is amazed and cannot wait to start his project in order to apply for the robotics program.
In order to be accepted in to the school Hiro has to enter a science fair and showcase his talent. Hiro creates microbots that can connect to each other and create anything. They are controlled by a neuro-cranial transmitter that is warm by the user.
After Hiro’s demonstration Professor Callaghan (James Cromwell) offers him a place in the robotics program he runs.
The event is over, Tadashi and Hiro are stood outside the building where the event took place when it bursts in to flames. People are running out screaming and it comes to light that professor Callaghan is trapped inside. Tadashi runs in to try and save him but unfortunately both professor Callaghan and Tadashi are believed to have died in the fire.
Weeks later, a depressed and lonely Hiro accidentally activates Baymax and the adventure begins. Hiro finds out that his invention (microbots) has been stolen and they are being mass produced in a warehouse. Before he has a chance to find out who it is a man in a mask attacks him and Baymax and chases them out of the warehouse. He recruits Baymax, Wasabi, Gogo, Honey Lemon and Fred to help him fight the evil man in the mask.
Each member of the team is made in to a hero with different powers, all based on the creations the were inventing at the beginning of the film, apart from Fred who is just the crazy one in the group.
Big Hero 6 gets a MASSIVE thumbs up from me. I think the flow of the story line works well. The chemistry between the characters is great. I will never stop being amazed by how talented the artists are who create these fantastic animations. The movie has a mix up highs and lows and jokes in all the right places. Baymax has to be my favourite character!!
If you haven’t watched it I seriously recommend you do. The scene where Baymax is running low on battery had me laughing out loud.
Big Hero 6 gets a 5 out of 5 from me.
Who else has watched this?
