Naomi and Ely’s No Kiss List… rising star? or child star flop?

So there I was, scrolling through my Netflix for something interesting to watch that I had not already seen and up popped Naomi and Ely’s No Kiss List under the Romantic Comedies.

Now if you have heard of Victoria Justice you know she is well known for her role in the Nickelodeon series Victorious.  My immediate thoughts were .. child star.. known for her cheesy comedy.. is this really worth my time. The title also didn’t really bode well, however i thought i’d have a look at some of the reviews. As always there was a mixed bag but a few caught my attention. Some of the higher rated reviews intrigued me.

It was a Sunday afternoon and I was tired of searching for something to watch so decided to see what it was all about.

Without giving too much away the film starts of as you would expect (as per the title) , introducing the characters,a bit about their background and it briefly refers to the no kiss list and who is on it. At this point i was considering turning it off as i expected a full on cheesy film based on the description and title. however as the film progressed I really started to enjoy it.

I would advise anybody who is considering watching this to first of all ignore the description and the title as they do not accurately reflect the story. Victoria Justice and Pierson Fode have the perfect on screen chemistry. They do really make you believe that they have been friends for years and when one of them betrays the other you really feel like them.

The story is not so much about the No Kiss List..but about the relationship between the two main characters and how they get through a difficult time both in their home lives as well as in their relationship.

It is not a hard hitting drama and there are no Academy Award Winning performances in the movie but it definitely surpassed my expectations. Victoria plays her role very well and is a believable character. She is very relate-able and honest. I will not be so quick to judge next time I see her name in a film. I also feel like i definitely want to check out more films with Pierson Fode in just to see what his acting is like in other films and what other characters he can take on.

Overall it was an easy watch and i would recommend this film to anybody who likes light-hearted Romantic Comedies.

I rate this a 4 out of 5.
